Can I really learn over the internet?

Is CIOMIT training just for hobbyist?

The education you will receive at CIOMIT, either on campus or online, has been designed for career minded students. It is serious study and requires dedication and commitment. You will be investing in tools and training fo prepare you for a career. You can take classes for your own personal fulfillment, but would not be certified.

When are classes held?

Online classes are held one or two nights a week, two hours per night for four to eight weeks. As an example. Monday and Wednesday, 5pm - 7pm MST. However, all our classes are flexible! Another example is our European students. We meet at 9am MST so their classes are around 6pm in their time zone.

On Campus classes begin when you are ready!

On Location. We come to you! We can help you set up your work space if needed. If you have a shop and need to train two, three or more, it make financial sense for us to come to you. Contact us for details!

Either online or on campus, let us know two weeks in advance so we can get tools and supplies to you (online) or ready for your arrival (on campus).

What is the total cost for the school?

If you were to sign up for the entire 12 month program your tuition cost would run just over $20,000. However, our online classes and power courses start as low as $450.

How many hours are spent in the on campus classroom?

Classroom/Lab work is 30 hours per week. Students are welcome to practice for an additional 2 hours per day on their own.

How long is a semester?

Our school is very different as we do not run true semesters. Class schedules start when you are ready, any time of the year. From one day to one week courses, all the way to nine and twelve month programs we work with your schedule.

What is the whole school process?

This is an accelerated apprentice type of program. Hands on repair training with business training course work included. Your on campus classes are over at 4:30pm each day, Monday thru Friday. Many students get part time nights and weekend jobs in the local area to supplement their income.

What is total cost from start to finish?

If you total the tuition and tooling necessary to get started in the trade, your costs will be $28,500 to $32,000. Additional tools are purchased throughout the career of a repairer.

Knowing that being successful takes hard work, what is the average income one might be able to make in one year?

The average first year repair tech with a good work flow can make $18,000 to $35,000 a year. Of course the amount of instruments to work on is the big definer! A three year tech average is $40,000 to $48,000; again based on work flow. A seasoned journeyman with six to seven years experience and a major market (LA, NY, Boston, etc...) can bring in $70,000 to $75,000 per year.

Does CIOMIT offer financial aid?

CIOMIT does not offer or have any programs for financial aid. Many of our students use a major credit card or family members to help with tuition costs. There is opportunity for student to take part or full time jobs in the Castle Rock area as well.

Does CIOMIT offer housing?

CIOMIT does not offer on campus housing. There are reasonably priced hotels for short stays and moderately priced apartments for those enrolled for out 9 and 12 month programs. A full list is available upon request.

How do I create a new User Account?

To create a new User Account, click the registration link on the left. When the Registration page opens, enter your personal information then click the Submit button to create a new account.

Note: you must have an email address to set up an account with us. The email address cannot be assigned to another user in our system. If the email address is assigned to another user, you will be notified and given the opportunity to enter a new email address.

How do I register for a course?

To register for a course:

Step 1: Look up the course you want to enroll in. When the Course Information page opens, click the Add to shopping cart.

Step 2: The shopping cart page opens next (note: you must be logged on before you can view your shopping cart, so if you're not logged on yet, you'll get the Logon page first). Verify your course selections (i.e. registration fee) if you want to add more courses, click the Add More Courses button to add more courses to your shopping cart. Otherwise, click the Enroll Now button to continue the enrollment process.

Step 3: The Course Registration page opens next. Enter your payment information then click submit. You will then be sent an email to your registered email address.

Step 4: Once the payment has been approved, a confirmation email with the registration specifics is also sent to your email address. At this time, you can safely log off the system.

***Important Note for those paying by Credit Card***
The Wait page will be displayed to you while the system is waiting for credit card approval. DO NOT move away from this page (click you Back button, select another URL, etc.) until the process is completed. If you do, the approval process is aborted and you WILL NOT be enrolled in the course.

Which methods of payment do you accept?

We accept Visa, Master Card, and Discover, PayPal. We also accept P.O. numbers (invoicing) for government agencies.

What is the cancellation policy if I am unable to attend?

Course fees are fully refundable if cancellation notification is provided to us 20 business days prior to the beginning date of the course. 50% will be refunded with notification within 6 - 19 business days. Cancellations received within 5 business days of the course start date will be charged the full amount.

How do I cancel a registration?
You cannot cancel a registration online. To cancel a registration, you must contact:

What do I do if I've lost my password?

You can send a request for your password to be sent to your email address. Click here to send a request.

Will I need tools and materials?

You will be sent the necessary tools and materials that will be used in each class prior to the beginning of class. The cost of these tools and materials are included in the course price.

What if I miss a class?

All classes are recorded and available for review for enrolled students at their convenience on the password protected area of the CIOMIT website.

What if I have my own tools?

If a student has tools previously acquired for the repair of musical instruments, a web cam inspection or description of the tools prior to the beginning of class which leads to an approval for use in class, the CIOMIT packaged tool set for the class can be modified and the price reduced for enrollment.

Can a friend audit one of my classes?

All recorded class material and live web casts of CIOMIT are copyright protected and for the sole use of enrolled students. Sharing of classes violates copyright laws and therefore is forbidden by CIOMIT. Any violation is grounds for immediate dismissal and loss of tuition.

What type of recognition will I get?

CIOMIT is not an accredited two or four year degree program. All students who successfully complete the full course work will receive a certificate suitable for validation of education in the course subject.

Your Instructor

- For each course, you will have one Instructor.

- Your Instructor will thoroughly evaluate your quizzes and projects, and will help you with any questions or problems you may have. You will keep in email contact with your Instructor throughout your course. Shared web cams can be used to evaluate any problems that cannot be solved via email.

- You should expect to receive feedback from your mentor within 3 business days of handing in each quiz or objective, although often you will receive feedback much sooner than that. Your instructor will generally get back to you within 24 hours if possible.

- Many students find the relationship with their Instructor to be one of the most enjoyable aspects of the courses. Think of having a lab all to yourself with a personal tutor!


To enroll in our courses, you need to:

- Know how to use a browser proficiently;
- Know how to use email; and
- Be ready to learn by experimentation and creation.

You need not have any prior repair experience to enroll in the course, since several courses are on the beginning level. However, some of our courses will have specified prerequisite skills. These skills can be learned by taking another CIOMIT course, or you may already possess the prerequisite skills. If you are unsure, contact us and we'll help you with this.

What time zone are the classes broadcast in?

All classes are listed in Mountain Time (sorry east coasters). If classes do not have west coast students enrolled, the start time of the classes can be moved up an hour to make it more convenient for east coast students when all students agree.


There are several ways in which you can communicate your questions or ideas to your instructor.

- You can always email your Instructor at, or if you are having system or enrollment problems, Your message will automatically be routed to your own instructor. You should expect a return email within 2 business days, although often you will receive a response within the same day.

- When you log in, you can use the Contact tab contained within the Home page to ask your Instructor questions.

- There will be assigned times to web cast with your instructor throughout the week. Many students like this method of communication, since it allows for visual confirmation of how they are progressing.

- A phone call can be scheduled at the discretion of your Instructor, if you need to talk to him/her real-time. However, most students find this unnecessary with the amount of communication that can be accomplished via the other methods.
